Firearms and Ammunition Policy
Firearms, ammunition and firearm parts may only be transported in checked baggage and in the correct container or case. Firearms, ammunition and firearm parts are Prohibited from carry-on baggage.
Proflight Zambia will only allow transportation of sporting guns and hand guns as long as in a special hard-case carrier. This container will be carried in the hold (checked baggage).
Following is a summary of key regulatory requirements to transport sporting firearms, Handguns, firearm parts or ammunition in checked baggage:

All firearms must be declared to the air line before the check-in process at Proflight Zambia’s office, to allow for this process please ensure you are at Proflight Zambia’s office in good time as a flight will not be delayed.

The customer wanting to transport a firearm and/or ammunition must be present (without exception) with their license and airline ticket as proof of travel.

The appropriate fee paid if applicable before reaching the check-in counter.

The firearm must be unloaded when handed over at check-in.

The firearm must be carried in a hard-sided container designed specifically for air travel.

The container must be locked.

The passenger must provide the key or combination to the screener if it is necessary to open the container, and then remain present during screening to take back possession of the key after the container is cleared.

Any ammunition transported must be securely packed in fiber (such as cardboard, wood or metal boxes or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.)

The ammunition may also be located in the same hard-sided case as the firearm, as long as it is properly packed as described above.

Black powder and percussion caps used with black-powder type firearms are not permitted in carry-on or checked baggage.
Handling Fee
A U$30.00 handling fee is charged for the carriage of handguns, sporting rifles and their ammunition. Payment will only be accepted in the form of cash or credit card at the Proflight Zambia office at the Station of departure. (not at check-in)Ammunition- a maximum of 5kgs, securely packed as detailed in the regulatory requirements will be permitted for carriage as a separate piece of baggage or within checked baggage. Ammunition must be declared in the same way as handguns or sporting rifles.
